Kundalini Awakenings
Before we get into this, I want to start by saying that I don't think you should have a Kundalini or your checklist, but hold in the realm of possibilities that you may one day experience when the time is right for you. You can work with life force (Shakti) and spirit or consciousness (Shiva) energy without having the intense Kundalini experience you hear about, but more through gentle raising and integration. A full awakening, or the rising and integration of these two energies, unifies them and activates the third force—creation and heart energy—at a more potent level.
Here is what my experience with Kundalini has been like—I first felt my Shakti acutely in the base of my back during a group event I was attending in Colorado—an energy cluster of electric tingles. I never sought out much information about Kundalini energy before this or felt the need to focus on this area. But from that first experience, it took me five months to feel called to raise it fully. During those five months, I was aware that my Kundalini was preparing to fully awaken. I could feel light running more fully down my spine. I had experiences with Mary Magdalene doing some of her magic on my life force, and I was still using self-quantum journeys to release, unblock, and heal more. Before this, I worked on physical and emotional healing through more traditional means and shadow work.
I was called to awaken my Kundalini fully on my 34th birthday, at my birth time—very specific for me. I did this through spiral movement, moving up my body as the energy rose, with some help from the goddesses and Shakti herself. It took me an hour and a half, and I had Vylana on as my soundtrack. Visually, this looked like two snakes of light moving up my body, one anchoring in at the pineal gland or toward the back of my head and one at the front between my brows. I've seen since that is more of an integration of the life force in your whole field and body.
I’m sharing this because many people go looking for their Kundalini awakening, trying to activate it before it is time, and some people have spontaneously awakened without trying. But you don’t often hear stories of people knowing it was coming for months and waiting for the call to fully awaken it—in a hotel room in Florida, on their own.
I’m also sharing this because this year is a powerful one for Kundalini awakenings. The Earth's life force is rising, consciousness is flowing in greater amounts, and as Earth's energy shifts, so do we.
There are some things left in conversations about Kundalini energy, and while I’m no expert on the topic, most of what I know comes through my own channel, experiences and through reference materials on the energetic body across cultures.
One of the biggest misconceptions I see is that Shakti gets all the attention. And while she is the powerhouse here—the Shakti, the feminine life force, the divine body—she is one part of a three-part equation. Forcing Shakti to rise before she is ready, before she is supported and feels safe, is often a reason some experience a very disruptive or even psychosis-inducing Kundalini awakening.
I’ve talked before about how the feminine rising needs a grounded masculine in order to fully rise in her full force and expression. In regards to Kundalini, this means that Shiva (divine mind, consciousness) needs to move through the body, bringing light and awareness to wounds or energy that need healing or release and for this healing, shadowwork or integration to take place.. He must anchor into the body—this is your spirit, your light.
If Shakti rises before this process is complete, she can create an environment where your consciousness tries to rapidly catch up—throwing light and awareness on all your darkness, all your unhealed parts at once. Or she creates a magnetic pull that draws in energy you don’t yet have the tools, discernment, or protection to deal with—which can lead to further healing and growth if you allow yourself to be aware or this, but maybe in a way that wasn’t necessary or aligned.
When Shakti rises in her full heart, Shiva meets her in his full heart—unifying the opposites within you and unleashing your full creative force. This, in my opinion, is what creates a truly balanced and unlocked heart field with infinite potential.
Reason why some Kundalini experience can be disruptive:
Unresolved Emotional & Psychological Trauma – Kundalini energy amplifies everything in the system, including deep-seated fears, past wounds, and suppressed emotions. All that light and consciousness shining on everything. If someone has not worked through their trauma, the awakening can bring intense psychological distress.
Forcing the Awakening – Practices like intense breathwork, extreme fasting, or excessive meditation without proper grounding can force Kundalini to rise before the body and energy system are ready, leading to symptoms like insomnia, anxiety, disorientation, or even psychosis.
Lack of Grounding & Embodiment – Kundalini is a powerful spiritual force, but it needs a strong, stable vessel. People who are disconnected from their bodies, overly focused on transcending the material world, or neglecting physical health may struggle to integrate the energy. And issues can stem from a lack of knowing how to protect their energy, clear and release energy from the body.
Energetic Blockages – If the chakras or energy channels are blocked, Kundalini energy may get "stuck" in certain areas, causing physical pain, pressure in the head, spontaneous movements, or extreme emotional swings.
Lack of Proper Guidance – Traditional Kundalini awakenings were often guided by experienced teachers who understood the process. Without knowledgeable support, people may misinterpret what’s happening, resist the experience, or spiral into fear. My guidance was my spirit team and my higher self, but this won't be the right approach for everyone.
False intentions & Misalignment – Sometimes, individuals seek Kundalini awakening for quick fixes, power, supernatural abilities, or to "speed up" enlightenment. This misalignment with the energy’s purpose can create imbalance, leading to destabilizing experiences.
My advice for working with Kundalini energy:
If you have already had a spontaneous awakening and need support, I would seek a proper guide, and focus on discernment, alignment, grounding - connecting to your body - and shadow work, clearing and energetic protection.
If you haven’t had a Kundalini awakening yet, don’t force it. Focus on whatever path to healing, transformation journey, or path to allow your true self to shine that you need. This could include traditional therapy, western medicine, alternative medicine, yoga, hypnosis, QiGong, or other modalities - follow what feels right for you at the time, and if it stops feeling right, find the next part of your path. Your Kundalini will rise when it is time or you may be called to do it at a specific point in your life, but don’t rush the process. This could be a facilitator or teacher, or could be on your own if you have the inner support for it.
If you’ve had a spontaneous awakening and need support, my Key Guidance Session can help to clarify your experience, provide practices for connecting with your body, and help you to release any energy that you are ready to release.
